Tuesday, September 14, 2010 | 9:00am
Chris Jordan is an agent of change whose presentations challenge audiences to take responsibility for the stewardship of our planet.

In a disposable culture, it is hard to get our heads around the enormous impact our waste has on the planet. By seeing what the statistics look like, we suddenly begin to comprehend what they mean. Jordan’s unique photographs bring a compelling perspective to what is thrown away by otherwise responsible citizens. Since his acclaimed series, Running the Numbers, was released in 2007, Jordan’s website has averaged 75,000–100,000 visitors per month. Jordan’s photographs depict the staggering statistics that define contemporary America. His consciousness-raising presentation invites audiences to see these images as metaphors for the role of the individual in our hypermodern society, showing the sheer volume of waste by representing the actual objects clogging our physical and cultural landscape. Audiences walk away inspired with the ability to effect change on an individual level to turn these statistics around.
