Portland, Maine
On Sunday, May 19, 2013, IBTTA volunteers took over Camp Sunshine whose mission is to supports children with life threatening illnesses and their families. The camp has the distinction of being the only program in the nation whose mission is to address the impact of a life threatening illness on every member of the immediate family—the ill child, the parents and the siblings. Nestled alongside the shores of beautiful Sebago Lake, we went to work mowing, raking, mulching and debris cleanup, painted 3,000 feet of fencing, stained and built a dock on the lake and much more. Camp Sunshine is staffed almost entirely by volunteers (2,500 of them annually!) and since its inception, has provided a haven for over 40,500 individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds.
