Greg Bedalov, Executive Director, Illinois Tollway Named to Board of Directors of the International Bridge, Tunnel and Turnpike Association

WASHINGTON, DC – More than 700 global transportation leaders from 22 countries gathered for the International Bridge, Tunnel and Turnpike Association's (IBTTA) 84th Annual Meeting and Exhibition in Denver, Colorado, September 11-14, 2016.

On September 14, Greg Bedalov, Executive Director of the Illinois Tollway was elected by the IBTTA membership to serve as a Director on the Board of Directors of the International Bridge, Tunnel and Turnpike Association (IBTTA). Bedalov’s term begins January 1, 2017 and continues through 2019.

“IBTTA is pleased that Greg Bedalov, Executive Director, Illinois Tollway, one of the nation’s leading toll authorities, will bring his leadership and vision to our association and industry,” said Patrick Jones, Executive Director and CEO of IBTTA. “Greg’s business and economic development experience will be a tremendous asset to our Board at this critical time when we address major infrastructure needs.”

Bedalov is responsible for managing the day-to-day operations of the nation’s fourth largest toll agency, based on 2015 toll revenues, overseeing a $1.3 billion annual budget and leading nearly 1,600 employees in providing a safe, effective and efficient toll highway system and ensuring the highest possible level of customer service for the Illinois Tollway’s 1.6 million daily drivers.

Upon his election to the Board, Bedalov said, “I am thrilled and honored that my fellow members of IBTTA have entrusted me with this leadership position.  My involvement as a member of the Board of Directors for IBTTA will allow me to engage with members around the world and use my experience to address the many challenges and opportunities facing the industry.”

The Illinois Tollway maintains and operates 292 miles of interstate tollways in 12 counties in Northern Illinois, including the Reagan Memorial Tollway (I-88), the Veterans Memorial Tollway (I-355), the Jane Addams Memorial Tollway (I-90), the Tri-State Tollway (I-94/I-294/I-80) and the Illinois Route 390 Tollway. More than 87 percent of the Illinois Tollway’s 2.3 million daily toll transactions are paid electronically through I-PASS or E-ZPass, the highest percentage of electronic toll collection in the nation among tolling systems that support both cash and electronic toll collection.

The International Bridge, Tunnel and Turnpike Association (IBTTA) is the worldwide association representing toll facility owners and operators and the businesses that serve them. Founded in 1932, IBTTA has members in more than 20 countries on six continents.
