"It's Not Just Books Anymore" Club: Being the Difference in a Divided World

Hosted by the Enlightenment Working Group of the Outreach, Opportunity, and Engagement Committee
It is easy to miss the quiet struggles others carry, from uncertainty about what is to come to the weight of feeling unseen or unsupported. This discussion will explore how we can recognize these moments, show up for others, and offer meaningful support, both within and outside the workplace.
This will be an interactive discussion about recognizing quiet struggles, creating a culture of awareness, and determining what meaningful support looks like. Please join us and share your story.
3:00 PM - 4:30 PM ET
Facilitators:
- Austin Bernier, User Experience Designer and Researcher, RideFlag Technologies, Inc.
- Sheryl Johnson, Director of Human Resources. Richmond Metropolitan Transportation Authority
The "It's Not Just Books Anymore" Club is an initiative of IBTTA’s Enlightenment Working Group that fosters open, inclusive discussions around societal inequities and biases. Using books, films, documentaries, podcasts, and other media as starting points, the group explores topics including racism, cultural discrimination, religious bias, ageism, gender inequality, socio-economic barriers, ableism, and discrimination based on sexual orientation. Through regular events and conversations, the initiative creates opportunities for members to deepen their understanding and work toward a more equitable and inclusive community.
The Enlightenment Working Group is a subcommittee of IBTTA's Outreach, Opportunity, and Engagement Committee.
