General Session: Safeguarding Bridges:  Insights from 2025 NTSB Recommendations
Venetian Ballroom, 4th Floor

Join us for this timely session about the challenges facing bridges over navigable waterways. Bridge operators are wrestling with the approaches to mitigate the risk in light of the recommendations by the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) that operators of bridges designed before the current guidance for vulnerability assessments analyze the risks of a vessel strike and potential mitigation strategies to protect essential infrastructure.

This panel will share their perspective on the technical aspects of risk assessments and the challenges related to their findings. Bridge operators will discuss how their commitment to safety and structural integrity is being managed against the large mitigation project costs, funding and insurance challenges, response plans, growth in large vessels, and operational and technical coordination with the maritime community.

Michigan Urban Farming Initiative (MUFI)

  Sunday, July 27, 2025; 8:00am - 4:00pm

Join us on Sunday, July 27, for a full day of service with the Michigan Urban Farming Initiative (MIUFI), a nonprofit organization located in Detroit’s Lower North End.  MUFI provides free fruits and vegetables to anyone in need, directly from the farm—making a real impact in the community.

The IBTTA team will take on two major projects:

  • We’ve already purchased a new three-bay structure, and we’ll be moving, organizing, and stocking it to serve as a cooled farm market and storage space for both large and small farming equipment.
  • We’ll also help revamp key farm systems to support year-round food production.

There will be additional projects for volunteers of all skill levels—so there’s something for everyone.  Register for the Workshop and be part of a meaningful day of service together.  Hope to see you on the farm!
