Jacob Barron
Director, Content Development
jbarron@ibtta.org

I'm a communications expert, writer, editor, photographer, videographer, and policy wonk. I'm interested in supporting industries that support the environment and the economy. I pay attention to laws and regulations, and what it takes to get them enacted. I like staying informed, so I can keep others informed.

Currently, I'm the director of content development at the International Bridge, Tunnel and Turnpike Association (IBTTA) where I serve as the organization's chief storyteller. Previously I worked for the American Gas Association (AGA) where I specialized in digital communications and audience building with a specific focus on enhancing the impact of the organization’s website.

Before that, I was Associate Director of Communications with the Plastics Industry Association (PLASTICS) where I was responsible for supporting PLASTICS' advocacy, outreach and business development units as a jack of all trades on the communications team. Prior to PLASTICS I was employed for nearly eight years in various communications and government affairs positions by the National Association of Credit Management (NACM), an organization that represents commercial trade creditors and financial risk managers.

I've worn many hats in my career, often simultaneously juggling responsibilities stretching from writing and editing articles, press releases, fact sheets, talking points, event coverage, ad copy and policy briefs, to developing, shooting and producing videos, providing photo coverage, developing consistent organization-wide content strategies, pitching the media, conducting online research and analysis, delivering presentations and using communications to successfully advocate for legislative changes through direct contact and grassroots mobilization.

I am a trained writer, and I enjoy accumulating new interests and expertise. I have a knack for making complicated things easier to understand. I always enjoy meeting new people, so reach out if you'd like to talk about natural gas, energy, manufacturing, finance, economics, news, policy or anything in between.

Jennifer Walsh is thrilled to join IBTTA as the Director of Communications. She thrives in developing communications strategies that prompt action and change among key audiences by using the latest media, creative, and data analytic tools.

Prior to joining IBTTA, Jennifer was the Director of Marketing & Communications for Gradient Learning. In her role, Jennifer developed and oversaw press, digital advertising, and social media campaigns to help the nonprofit organization achieve its goal of rethinking, reimagining, and rebuilding education for students and teachers across the country.

Previously, Jennifer served as the Deputy Director for the Office of News and Public Information for the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine, which includes the Transportation Research Board.  During her tenure, she directed the communication strategy for more than 200 studies and events—including the report Renewing the National Commitment to the Interstate Highway System—that were covered in thousands of news outlets, such as NBC Nightly News, CBS Evening News, New York Times and the Washington Post.

Before joining the Academies, Jennifer worked for the public relations firm Tricom Associates, Inc., where she applied her passions for writing and creative solutions to work for a number of nonprofit clients, some of which were The JASON Project, U.S. Commission on Ocean Policy, Walt Disney American Teacher Awards, and Alzheimer’s Association.

Jennifer holds a Master of Business Administration from Virginia Tech and bachelor's degrees in chemistry, political science, and journalism from Ohio University.
