IBTTA Scholarship Program

Established to assist current undergraduate students pursuing a degree in one of the eligible fields listed below.

This program is administered by Scholarship America®, the nation's largest designer and manager of scholarship, tuition assistance and other education support programs for corporations, foundations, associations and individuals. Awards are granted without regard to race, color, creed, religion, sexual orientation, age, gender, disability or national origin.

The application submission period is closed. Please check back in March 2021.


Students must:

1.  Have completed their sophomore year of college,

2. Be pursuing a degree in one of the following fields:

  • Engineering

  • Civil Engineer

  • Structural Engineer

  • City and Regional Planning

  • Construction Management

  • Public Policy or Public Administration

  • Other Transportation-related Degree

  • Finance

  • Accounting

  • Information Technology

  • Business Management

  • Marketing

  • Communications

  • Operations Management

3. Be continuing their undergraduate study at an accredited four-year college or university for the entire upcoming academic year AND,

4. Have a minimum grade point average of 2.5 on a 4.0 scale (or its equivalent).


If selected as a recipient, the student will receive a $5,000 award. Up to five (5) awards will be granted. Awards are not renewable, but students may reapply to the program each year they meet eligibility requirements. Awards are for undergraduate study only.

Recipients are required to either attend the IBTTA Foundation Annual Meeting to accept their award (at the Foundation's expense) or to send a video acceptance if unable to attend. The Foundation's Annual Meeting in 2020 will be held in Austin, TX.

Selection of Recipients

Scholarship recipients are selected on the basis of academic record, demonstrated leadership and participation in school and community activities, honors, work experience, statement of goals and aspirations, unusual personal or family circumstances, and an outside appraisal. Applicants are also required to submit a resume demonstrating work that has been done on industry-related activities. Financial need is not considered.

The selection of recipients is made by Scholarship America. In no instance does any officer or employee of the IBTTA Foundation or IBTTA play a part in the selection. All applicants agree to accept the decision as final.


Applicants are notified in June of the application year. Not all applicants to the program will be selected as recipients. Students may reapply to the program each year they meet eligibility requirements.

Payment of Scholarships

Scholarship America processes scholarship payments on behalf of the IBTTA Foundation. Payments are made in one installment in early August.


Recipients have no obligation to the IBTTA Foundation. They are, however, required to notify Scholarship America of any changes in address, school enrollment, or other relevant information, and to send a complete official transcript when requested.
