The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) is headquartered in Washington, D.C., and coordinates within the federal government to make sure America is equipped to prepare for and respond to disasters.

National Voluntary Organizations Active in Disaster (NOMAD)(link is external) (recommended by FEMA)

Organizations on the ground know what items and quantities are needed, often buy in bulk with discounts and, if possible, purchase through businesses local to the disaster, which supports economic recovery.
