IRVINE, CA (June 18, 2020) – Samuel Johnson, interim CEO of the Transportation Corridor Agencies (TCA), has been awarded the Contagious Leadership Award from the International Bridge, Tunnel and Turnpike Association’s (IBTTA) Leadership Academy Alumni Association.

“Samuel is the first graduate of the IBTTA Leadership Academy to reach the position of president. He’s the right person to hold the honor. He has an infectious sense of leadership and truly is a driver in our association and the industry as we strive for continued success,” said Patrick D. Jones, Executive Director and CEO of IBTTA. “It’s challenging to be a leader during uncertain times – especially in transportation and tolling when the public is largely being asked to stay off the roads due to a pandemic. Samuel rises to challenges, confronts them whole-heartedly and inspires others to do the same.”

“It’s an honor to be recognized as an inspirational leader by my industry peers around the globe. At a time when we are all worried about health, the economy and social injustice, we shouldn’t shy away from leadership as challenging as it may be,” Johnson said. “I firmly believe that thought leadership in transportation and infrastructure investment can help a pandemic-influenced economy start to recover and our industry is ready to lead the charge.”

IBTTA is the worldwide association for the owners and operators of toll facilities and the businesses that serve them. Founded in 1932, IBTTA has members in 23 countries on six continents. Johnson was elected 2020 President of IBTTA during their 87th Annual Meeting with more than 800 transportation leaders from 23 countries present.

IBTTA’s Leadership Academy is an executive development program tailored specifically for leaders in public and private sector tolling organizations and assists in executive development. The curriculum covers all facets of toll agency operations, administration, finance, marketing, communications, business development, board relations and related topics.

TCA staff members are encouraged to join industry and trade associations – like IBTTA – because they offer opportunities for professional development, knowledge sharing and advocacy that further the Agencies’ initiatives and mission.
