Speaker Guide

Familiarize yourself with the format
Tech and Trend Talks are a showcase for speakers presenting well-formed ideas in 15 minutes (or less). Shorter doesn't mean "lesser", just shorter and that's ok! Check out some TEDx Talks; they were the inspiration for the IBTTA "Tech" Talks.
Develop your idea
Is it new? Interesting? Compelling? Factual and realistic? If you've answered no to any of these questions, then you may want to choose a different idea or topic. Remember to be clear about what you want to convey. What points do you want your audience to walk away with? Once you figure that out -- use that as a structure to frame your talk
Make an outline and script
Your primary goal is to communicate an idea effectively, to tell a story. The structure of your talk should be invisible to the audience but clearly thought through as you pull your outline, script and accompanying slides (if you choose to have them) together. A few pointers: 1) get your idea out as quickly as possible; 2) Talk to persuade, not just to inform; 3) Stick to your outline, stay on point; 5) Avoid product pitches. 6) Use present tense and strong, clear language.
Create slides
Before building your slides, ask yourself "would my slides help and clarify information for the audience or would they distract and confuse them from the point of my talks?" Slides should complement your talk, not BE the talk.
Recommendations for maximum impact?
- Stick to photographic or other images, running edge to edge.
- Use as little text as possible.
- Avoid using bullets. If you do use words, use font size 42 points or larger in common sans serif fonts like Helvetica or Verdana. And finally, build them in 1920x1080 pixels at a 16:9 aspect ratio.
Rehearse!
Each session is 90-minutes long. Within that time frame, there may be four to five, 10-12 minute presentations. Timing is critical. Be sure that your talk is within your 10-12 minute time frame by timing yourself and rehearsing (more than once. Your facilitator will outline all guidelines and timing when you speak with them.
Give your talk and savor the glory!
